Alterations to a long vacant movie theater included addition of a second floor theater and new blade sign. Seismic upgrades done to bring the building into conformance with contemporary building code standards included new steel moment frames, shear walls, and diaphragms. All alterations were done while preserving historic elements of the building. The work garnered the California Preservation Foundation’s 2007 Preservation Design Award.
